A Calling from Childhood: From a Goat’s House to GOSAFO-UG
The Birth of GOSAFO-UG

Benson as a Child, Leading Worship in a Goat’s House
“A calling from childhood, where it all began! Even in the simplest of places, faith found a home. A young heart filled with purpose, gathering children to worship; unaware that God was preparing him for a greater mission. From a goat’s house to a global vision; every great journey starts with a single step of faith.”
Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Zechariah 4:10 – “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”

Benson as the Founder and Director of GOSAFO-UG
“A dream nurtured in childhood, now a reality changing lives. From leading children in a humble goat’s house to leading an organization that empowers the vulnerable, the journey of faith, love, and service continues. GOSAFO-UG stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness and the power of answering His call. The mission is not yet over: this is just the beginning!”
Matthew 5:13 – “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and
trampled underfoot.”
Philippians 1:6 – “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Benson was born and nurtured in a Christian family; at a tender age, Benson knew deep in his heart that he was called to serve. As a child, he would gather his fellow children in the community and invite them to his home to worship God. They had no formal place of worship, but that did not stop them. With unwavering faith and determination, they turned a simple goat’s house into their sacred sanctuary. It became their church, where they lifted their voices in praise and sought the presence of God.
Benson naturally assumed the role of a leader. In his young mind, he was not just a child playing church, he was preparing for a greater calling. Their altar was a borrowed table from the living room, and their pulpit was his heart, filled with passion for leading and nurturing the children around him. After every service, they would carry back the table and chairs, and Benson would solemnly dismiss his little congregation, just as any church leader would. Even then, he believed that every child deserved a space to worship, to learn, and to be loved.
As he grew, so did this passion within him. He found great joy in playing with children, listening to them, and guiding them. It was more than just a pastime; it was a God-given purpose unfolding before his eyes. Throughout his Primary and High school levels, Benson would create time to gather with children and teach them.
After graduating from a University, Benson moved back home as he searched for employment. During this time, he started a small mobile money business to sustain himself. One morning, while heading to his business, he met a young orphaned girl crying on the roadside. When he inquired about her distress, she revealed that she had been sent home from school due to unpaid school fees and lacked scholastic materials. Her grandmother, who was her sole guardian, was unable to afford her educational needs.
Touched by the girl’s plight, Benson bought her books and pens and went to her school, where he spoke to the head-teacher and committed to paying her school fees for one term. That evening, as he reflected on the situation, he turned to the Bible for guidance and read Matthew 5:13: “You are the salt of the earth.” This verse ignited a deep conviction in him to be the ‘salt’ in the lives of orphaned children in his community. Realizing that the problem was widespread, Benson visited schools in his sub-county and discovered that many orphaned children were dropping out due to financial constraints. Although he lacked a formal job at the time, he was determined to help. He requested the head-teacher to add two more orphaned children to his list of beneficiaries, committing himself to pay their school fees, and on that same day, he distributed pencils to all orphaned children in that school as shown in the photo below;

To increase his income, Benson ventured into fish farming by digging earthen ponds and stocking them with fish. However, after his first day successful harvest, his farm was tragically destroyed when River Nyamwamba flooded, washing away his fish ponds and leaving massive rocks in their place, as shown below;

Despite this setback, Benson remained resilient. A year later, he secured a contract job with a commercial bank, which provided him with a steady income. As he continued supporting orphaned children, he encountered more children in dire situations. One day, he found two young boys wandering in the community, hungry and hopeless. Their story was similar; orphans struggling to survive and access education. This experience fueled his determination to find a sustainable solution to support vulnerable children.
Benson spent months in deep thought, consulting his mentors about starting a Community-Based Organization (CBO). Initially, the idea seemed overwhelming, but his passion for helping children pushed him forward. He gathered a group of like-minded individuals from the community and friends who supported his vision. Together, they founded Good Salt Foundation – Uganda (GOSAFO-UG), drawing inspiration from Matthew 5:13, a Bible verse Benson had initially read after supporting a young orphaned girl.
Since its inception, GOSAFO-UG has been a source of hope for many children, empowering them to achieve their dreams and break the cycle of poverty. Through partnerships, community engagement, and faith-driven initiatives, the organization continues to create a lasting impact on the lives of those it serves. However, the journey of GOSAFO-UG is far from over.
Benson’s unwavering commitment to being the ‘salt of the earth’ has transformed countless lives, turning his personal struggles and compassion into a movement of love, care, and empowerment for vulnerable children. What started as a child’s dream in a small goat’s house has now become a beacon of hope for many, shaping futures and restoring lives. It is now, Good Salt Foundation-Uganda (GOSAFO-UG).
